One of them wanted to show us a garment from their own collection, and sent us an example of a classic raglan sweater in light, soft wool from a manufacturer located just a few minutes from their own factory premises.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eWe liked the wool yarn, but not the design otherwise. The starting point was still easy to work from; we changed a striped structure pattern to seed stitch, as well as a few measurements, and then we had the light, high-necked sweater that we were missing in our collection.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eSeed stitch is a technique that has been used for hundreds of years; probably first in embroidery and later in knitting. It can also be translated into a simple basket weave pattern: every other stitch over and under, both in rows and columns. The seed stitch is discreet, but gives the sweater a different look than if it had been made in stockinette stitch.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eBoth the color and the design make for a timeless sweater that we can combine with most outfits. When it was not initially selected, we continued wearing the prototypes ourselves. On one of our treasure hunts in a thrift store, we once found an old knitting pattern. All that was left was the cover of what had been a booklet, the actual knitting patterns were gone. On the cover were pictures of the knitting patterns, and one of them was a wool sweater with a scallop pattern.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eWe made our own version of the pattern, translating it from coarse hand knit to fine jacquard machine knit and changing the colors to a soft gray-green and milky white.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eJacquard is a collective term for various techniques that can be used for pattern knitting with multiple colors.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eOur scallop sweater is knitted in a way that makes it just as pretty on the front as it is on the back. Also notice how well the pattern is placed on the garment and how it matches in all the seams.
