Some experiences are so quiet that we forget how powerful they are. Like the special smell that comes with the rain.

When the earth has been dry for a long time, and the air finally carries with it a promise. Now it comes.

The first drops fall, and with them: geosmin. Because it's not just a feeling, it actually has a scientific name.

Geosmin is an organic compound that carries a distinct, earthy scent. The name also means "earthy smell" (from Greek: geo = earth, osme = smell).

Geosmin is created by tiny, invisible creatures in the soil — microorganisms, particularly bacteria of the genus Streptomyces . These life forms are the silent architects of the Earth, playing a key role in breaking down organic matter and nourishing the life around them.

When the soil is disturbed — whether rain hits the dry ground, or when we dig in the soil — geosmin is released, awakening the familiar, fresh scent of wet earth and rain.

It is as if nature itself is whispering to us through this scent, a reminder of the eternal circle of life.

Humans are highly sensitive to geosmin — we can detect it in incredibly low concentrations, sometimes as little as a few parts per trillion. While it's not a superpower, it's a pretty remarkable sense, isn't it?

Our cable knit sweater is inspired by these contrasting summers of ours. The Norwegian summer evenings, where the weather changes suddenly. The bright evenings where you want a thick sweater to be able to continue the conversation outside – even if it might be under cover.

It is made to embrace you in the softest and most gentle way, as only the best alpaca wool can.

Maybe tonight is it – one of those evenings where the laughter and closeness never end.

Greetings Anja
