I used to think about this question a lot during the design process for HEKNE's clothes. Until one day I made this list that has been hanging in my studio:
1. A classic must have quality and be resistant to the passage of time.
2. A classic must have timeless elegance and be able to travel from generation to generation.
3. A classic must have something unique, yet familiar. It should be a safe place.
The day after I hung up this list, I completed the first sketch of what in my imagination would become a design that had all the elements on the list.
When the prototype was finished, I knew my intuition had not failed me. I was sure I had found something truly valuable. I could picture my mother with the sweater, and my grandmother, and my children... and it was a wonderful feeling to have a classic in my hands, developed in my own head. That's how the KAMSKJELL sweater came into being.
