Why we manufacture in Europe
There was one thing I was thoroughly trained in at the various clothing brands where I worked as an intern before starting HEKNE: creating super detailed explanations for the technical drawings of the designs.
Lots of arrows, underlines and bold letters. So that there would be no doubt about anything, regardless of language barriers and the skill level of the people who made the garments.
I got to see how many strange solutions could come back from the factories and how big a gap there could be between the designer's idea and the prototype. This has become part of the fashion industry today due to the long distances that separate designers and manufacturers.
This experience was crucial to me starting HEKNE instead of working for someone else. I wanted to have a different relationship with the people I work with.
It felt completely wrong to place so much emphasis on technical drawings, instead of caring more about the people who received them.
I want to make the best possible products, without compromising people's well-being. It feels right to pay more to do that.
I communicate regularly with our manufacturers . I send them simple drawings that they not only understand but also suggest improvements to. I can look forward to each new prototype and trust that they have always done their best.
It's a wonderful feeling to be able to work with people who understand the values we stand for.
Greetings Anja
