Risograph printing is somewhat similar to screen printing, in that one color is printed at a time. If multiple colors are desired, the same paper is run through the machine multiple times, with drying breaks in between.
The ink used in risograph printing is based on byproducts from soy and rice production, mixed with pigment and water. The ink contains no drying agents but dries by being absorbed into the paper. This, in addition to the technique requiring very little energy, makes it a very environmentally friendly way to print.
Risograph printing originated in Japan and produces a very special, fine-grained look with vibrant colors and small, unique imperfections.
Please note that the blue color may rub off on you at first.
