This little folder is made from a worn-out HEKNE sweater that has been felted into wool felt. Instead of ending up in the trash, the sweater has been given a new lease of life.

  • Space for repair and sewing supplies
  • Needles can be stored in wool to prevent them from rusting, and in this folder they can be attached to what was previously the side seam of the sweater.
  • Small pocket with space for thread, yarn, patches and scissors

Carry the folder in your bag or pocket. Then you will always have the opportunity to fix quick repairs and find peace in meaningful needlework, regardless of time and place. Just as it has been done throughout history; repair and sewing supplies have been indispensable for everyone, from housewives to soldiers at war.

Want to make your own folder from a worn-out wool garment?

All wool that is not Superwash will felt when washed at high temperatures. Wash the garment at 60 degrees and shape it while it is damp. It must be washed with something else to be felted properly, but it can be useful to put it in a laundry bag or pillowcase to prevent the wool fibers from spreading everywhere in the machine.

Cut out a piece approx. 29 x 13 cm. Make a pocket by folding the fabric and sewing on bias tape along the edges.

Other ideas for what you can make from wool felt from worn-out garments

  • Maybe the shrunken version fits someone smaller than yourself?
  • A sweater can become a vest if you cut off the sleeves
  • Sleeves can become baby pants
  • Mittens, hat, PC or mobile phone cover, blanket, pillow, stuffed animal, seat pad
  • And the leftovers? They can be used to patch holes in other wool garments

The great thing about felted wool is that what has become flabby, worn and ugly disappears when it shrinks. Another advantage is that you can cut it without it unraveling. This means that you can make something new out of the wool garment even without sewing.
