Carefully selected materials

WHY NATURAL FIBERS?

We use only 100% natural materials. Fabrics and yarns made from natural fibers such as wool, cotton and linen are all biodegradable, they breathe and feel comfortable on the body, and they last a long time.

We want pure materials and do not choose natural fibers mixed with synthetic fibers. Synthetic fibers are often mixed with natural fibers primarily because it makes the material cheaper, not because it makes the material better. Synthetic fibers are also in many cases stronger, and will wear out the natural fibers if mixed.

WHY WOOL?

  • Wool is a 100% natural and renewable fiber.
  • Wool is temperature-regulating: By absorbing and transporting moisture away from your skin, it keeps you warm and dry when it's cold, and dry and cool when it's hot. Wool can absorb up to 30% of its own weight without feeling wet or cold.
  • Wool's ability to absorb moisture also makes it self-cleaning and antibacterial. What is not released while you wear the garment will disappear from the complex structure of the fibers when it is aired or washed.
  • Wool is also environmentally friendly because it has a longer lifespan than other fibers and requires fewer washing cycles.

In addition to regular sheep's wool, we use cashmere, alpaca, merino and mohair, all of which have their own unique properties and benefits.

WHY RWS?

The Responsible Wool Standard is a global certification that covers the entire supply chain from the sheep farmer to the finished product. It sets strict requirements for animal welfare, land management and worker health and safety, among other things. Practices such as mulesing are strictly prohibited.

WHY UNDYED?

Dyeing and bleaching are one of the finishing processes in the clothing industry that are most harmful to both nature and health due to the chemicals used. Undyed and unbleached textiles or yarns retain their natural color.

WHY RECYCLED?

Recycling is not a foolproof solution for the future. It alone cannot correct the imbalance we have today, nor is it necessarily a good choice in all cases. Nevertheless, in combination with other measures we believe it is an important contribution. And - recycling is not the same as recycling:

  • The recycled yarn we use for our knitwear is 100% mechanically recycled (not chemically).
  • The yarn is not made from plastic bottles (which should rather remain in their own circular system and become new plastic products) or other waste that is difficult to recycle, but from knitted textiles and surplus materials from other productions. It is 100% recycled and not mixed with new fibers.

The fabrics from which the yarn is spun come from different suppliers and each batch will be different. If you experience that the quality of your knitwear is not good enough, please let us know.

WHY GRS?

Our Filpucci recycled yarn is certified by the Global Recycled Standard. GRS is promoted by Textile Exchange, one of the most important non-profit organizations promoting international responsible and sustainable development in the textile industry. GRS covers the following areas: composition and content of recycled materials, traceability throughout the production process, restrictions on the use of chemicals, compliance with relevant environmental criteria and workers' rights.

WHY ORGANIC?

  • When we choose organic cotton, we know that the farmer who has supplied the raw material is free to choose the seeds he wants (and is not locked into costly contracts with the GM giants who control 95% of the cotton seed market).
  • Organic cotton is grown alongside the farmer's food, and the quality of the soil where it grows is not destroyed.
  • Organic cotton requires less energy and water compared to conventionally grown cotton, and it produces up to 94% fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
  • The farmer will not be among the 77 million agricultural workers who suffer from pesticide poisoning every year.
  • When you choose organic, we also know that there will be no traces of toxic chemicals in the garment you are about to wear.

WHY GOTS?

  • When we choose GOTS-certified fabrics, we know that not only the final product, but the entire life cycle follows strict requirements and controls. Everything from growing the raw material to the last point in the production of the fabric is inspected and controlled. The quality of the final product itself (how it reacts to sunlight, shrinkage, etc.) must also be approved. Strict criteria for the health and safety of all workers involved also apply.
  • GOTS does not allow child labor, which is still widespread in cotton production.
  • No hazardous chemicals are allowed in production and all wastewater is treated to protect workers and their water supplies.
  • The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognized as the world's leading standard for textiles made from organic raw materials. Only products that contain a minimum of 70% organic fibers can be GOTS certified. These will be labeled "made with organic", while only products that contain a minimum of 95% organic fibers can be labeled "organic".
