Et valg om å være bærekraftig

A choice to be sustainable

When we decided to start HEKNE, there were many things to consider and much to consider. We had to make important decisions based on who we are and what we want to contribute.

It is important to us that HEKNE is as sustainable as possible. This means that many processes become more demanding, but that is how we want to contribute.

This means, for example, that we need to be careful about all the materials we choose to use. This applies to materials for clothing, but also materials for other things, such as labels and packaging. We need to consider what they are made of, who made them, and where they are made.

In the process of selecting materials and manufacturers, GOTS certifications have weighed heavily. That's why we are proud to say that large parts of our first collection are made from GOTS-certified textiles.

GOTS stands for The Global Organic Textile Standard and the certification involves many requirements for the environment and health. Unlike other certifications, such as Oeko-tex , the standard covers not only the finished product, but the entire process from processing and production, to packaging, labeling, sales and distribution. This means, for example, that the dyeing of the textiles must also be environmentally friendly in order for the finished fabric to retain the certification.

All GOTS textiles must be made from at least 70% certified organic natural fibers. In addition to the requirements for the materials themselves, there are also requirements regarding safety and social conditions for the manufacturers of the textiles.

For HEKNE it is important to leave the lightest possible footprint. We want you to think before you buy clothes, and before you throw them away. Materials are the aspect of our operations that we have chosen to focus on the most, as clothing design is our main activity.

That's why we use quality materials that last longer, rather than cheap materials that break down faster. We want to support people to slow down their buying and throwing away consumption by offering quality garments that people buy fewer of.

When you say you want to do things in a sustainable way, it's always easy to point out things that could be better. That's the case for us too. We've done our best with this collection, and now we're working on making the next one even better. That's why HEKNE will continuously be on the lookout for new, sustainable solutions.
